Thus, annexin A4 can be used in diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of these cancers. In addition, the encoded protein acts as a tumor suppressor for prostate cancer (PCa) and has a contradictory role for pancreatic cancer (PCC)._x000D_ The major involvement of Annexin 4 is seen in membrane permeability, exocytosis and regulation of ion channels. Its role in membrane fluidity and membrane trafficking may explain in part the involvement of Annexin 4 in modulating drug resistance in cancer cells. Indeed, Annexin 4 was found to confer chemoresistance in ovarian cancer cells in part by enhancing drug efflux.
