It exists in five isoforms and is expressed in selective tissues. The encoded protein is a G protein-coupled receptor for the lysophospholipid sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P)._x000D_ The protein encoded by this gene is structurally similar to G protein-coupled receptors and is highly expressed in endothelial cells. Elevated expression of the protein has been observed in signal transducer and activator of transcription-3 (STAT3)-positive tumors.
