Mutation in this gene might be associated with the pathophysiology of Alzheimer′s disease, through structural and functional modification of the right entorhinal and left hippocampus of the brain._x000D_ 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR) plays a major role in mevalonate biosynthesis, which is a rate limiting step of cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver.
