Description; General description; Myc is a multifunctional, nuclear phosphoprotein that plays a role in cell cycle progression, apoptosis and cellular transformation. It functions as a transcription factor that regulates transcription of specific target genes. Mutations, overexpression, rearrangement and translocation of this gene have been associated with a variety of hematopoietic tumors, leukemias and lymphomas, including Burkitt lymphoma. There is evidence to show that alternative translation initiations from an upstream, in-frame non-AUG (CUG) and a downstream AUG start site result in the production of two isoforms with distinct N-termini. The synthesis of non-AUG initiated protein is suppressed in Burkitt′s lymphomas, suggesting its importance in the normal function of this gene.; Specificity; Anti-MyC (AB3) polyclonal antibody reacts with human, mouse, rat, and canine Myc proteins.; Immunogen; Synthetic peptide directed towards the C terminal region of human MYC; Application; Anti-MyC (AB3) polyclonal antibody is used to tag Myc protein for detection and quantitation by Western blotting and in plasma by immunohistochemical (IHC) techniques. It is used as a probe to determine the roles of Myc in cell cycle progression, apoptosis and cellular transformation.; Physical form; Purified antibody supplied in 1x PBS buffer with 0.09% (w/v) sodium azide and 2% sucrose.; Disclaimer; Unless otherwise stated in our catalog or other company documentation accompanying the product(s), our products are intended for research use only and are not to be used for any other purpose, which includes but is not limited to, unauthorized commercial uses, in vitro diagnostic uses, ex vivo or in vivo therapeutic uses or any type of consumption or application to humans or animals.; Biochem/physiol Actions; MYC is a multifunctional, nuclear phosphoprotein that plays a role in cell cycle progression, apoptosis and cellular transformation.
