During apoptosis, the encoded protein is degraded in a caspase-dependent manner. It acts as a regulator in invasion and migration of tumor cells. The overexpression of cortactin causes osteosarcoma carcinogenesis and along with FAK increases the risk of oral premalignant lesions.
