It is mainly present in the stratified epithelia, hair follicles and thymic Hassall’s corpuscles. The protein localizes in the nucleus and cytoplasm, and exists as a homodimer. Recombinant Human Galectin-7 is a 15.4kDa protein consisting of 136 amino acid residues_x000D_ Biochem/physiol Actions_x000D_ LGALS7 (galectin-7) helps in maintaining skin homeostasis, particularly after skin injury. It is also involved in keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation via JNK1 (c-Jun N-terminal kinase)-miR-203-p63 pathway. LGALS7 is a biomarker for skin condition and skin barrier disruption. In HeLa cells, it induces apoptosis most likely via JNK signaling. LGALS7 is downregulated in SV40-transformed cells and squamous cell carcinoma cells. Change in its activity/expression is associated with the progression of various epithelia-associated cancers.
