MLK2 itself can be phoshorylated, and activated by JNK kinases. MLK2 is also known as mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase 10 (MAP3K10). MLK2 functions preferentially on the JNK signaling pathway which is involved in nerve growth factor (NGF) induced neuronal apoptosis. MLK2 was isolated as a cDNA fragment from MKN28 gastric cancer cell library using degenerate PCR.
