Description General description Paraformaldehyde is also referred as polyoxymethylene. It participates as an external CO source in the synthesis of aromatic aldehydes and esters. Paraformaldehyde is an ideal fixative used in histology. It is generally preferred over other fixative as the others result in more silver grains on the tissues. Paraformaldehyde, appropriately combined with DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) ensures its uniform distribution over the tissue section. Paraformaldehyde is also used in recognizing and stabilizing the expression of intracellular antigen. Application Paraformaldehyde has been used as a fixative in histological analysis.
