Description General description A novel diterpene triepoxide isolated from the Chinese herb Tripterygium wilfordii that acts as a potent immunosuppressant and anti-inflammatory agent. Induces apoptosis in tumor cells by activating DEVD-cleaving caspases. Sensitizes tumor cells to TNF-α-induced apoptosis, and inhibits TNF-α-induced activation of NF-κB. Also inhibits T cell IL-2 expression at the level of purine-box/nuclear factor of activated T cells and NF-κB transcriptional activation. Also reported to inhibit mitogen activated protein kinase phosphatase-1 (MKP-1).
